 The 47th Award of the Faculty of Fine Arts!

Students from the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts at Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), were awarded a gold medal at the 22nd International Istanbul Gastronomy Festival (International Istanbul Culinary Days), one of Türkiye’s most prestigious gastronomy events.

The 22nd International Istanbul Gastronomy Festival (International Istanbul Culinary Days), one of Türkiye’s most prestigious gastronomic organizations, is being held at the Istanbul Bahçelievler Congress Center between December 17–20, 2025. Organized for 21 years by the Turkish Chefs and Cooks Federation (TAŞFED), the festival continues to attract attention this year by bringing together chefs, academics, and gastronomy students from around the world.

Within the scope of the festival, students from the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts are competing in two different categories—“Best University Team of the Year Competition” and “University-Level Modern Turkish Cuisine Team Competition”—by transferring the theoretical and practical knowledge they have acquired into practice. Through competitions evaluated by international jury members, students gain both professional experience and valuable international exposure.

Gold Medal for Our Students!

On December 18, 2025, in the “Best University Team of the Year Competition,” students from the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Umut Can Yılmaz, Şeyma Nur Bayrak, and Emrullah Saraç won first place and were awarded the gold medal.

Under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Aslı Albayrak, Chair of the Department  of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts of the Faculty of Fine Arts, and with the support of Lecturer Revşen Akay and Lecturer Didar Başgöze from the Pastry and Bakery Department of the Vocational School, as well as Lecturer Levent Demirçakmak from the Culinary Arts Department, our students prepared for the competition and delivered a successful performance by preparing and presenting a full menu consisting of a starter, a main course, and a dessert to the chefs.

We congratulate our students Umut Can Yılmaz, Şeyma Nur Bayrak, and Emrullah Saraç on winning first place and the gold medal in the “Best University Team of the Year Competition.”

We also wish success to our students Yahya Osman Çalışkan, Ahmet Efe Köylü, and Kaan İnci, who will compete in the “University-Level Modern Turkish Cuisine Team Competition” on December 20, 2025.
