 Introduction to the Faculty of Fine Arts


The Faculty of Fine Arts at Istanbul Gelişim University began its academic journey in 2011 with four undergraduate programs: Graphic Design, Fashion and Textile Design, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, and Communication Design.

With a modern approach to education that embraces continuous change and development, the faculty considers both national and international dynamics to offer students education opportunities at global standards. In the 2015-2016 academic year, three new departments were added: Interior Architecture, Cinema and Television, and Gastronomy and Culinary Arts. With the addition of these programs, the total number of undergraduate programs within the faculty has reached seven.

Department of Graphic Design

The Department of Graphic Design aims to train professional graphic designers who can execute projects in typography and print design, develop solutions for challenges encountered during the design process, and ensure that the design process is sustainable and aligned with environmental and societal harmony. The department's goal is to cultivate professional designers who are competent in organizing typography, form, visual design, printing processes, packaging, illustration, and other essential knowledge in visual communication. These designers will be capable of producing high-quality work in the field of graphic design while staying closely attuned to contemporary trends.

Graduates of the Graphic Design Department can find employment in advertising agencies, graphic design firms, printing houses, publishing companies, packaging companies, advertising departments of private sector organizations, and other related fields.

The Graphic Design Department is an excellent choice for individuals with a sense of visual aesthetics, a curiosity for innovation and design trends, an interest in working with computer programs, and a desire to visualize their ideas or develop themselves in this area.

Department of Communication and Design

The Department of Communication and Design aims to cultivate designers who combine modern technologies with design, think analytically, create products tailored to specific objectives, possess a strong sense of responsibility, work well in teams, keep up with global trends, and produce sustainable and interactive designs in the fields of communication, digital media, and advertising. Anticipating the demands of a digital and technology-driven economy, the Department of Communication and Design has become increasingly vital in a rapidly transforming era. Technology is shaping the designers of the future. With the development of innovative applications such as the metaverse, artificial intelligence, and NFTs, there is a growing need for professionals who can implement visual communication strategies within these platforms. These innovations are making design and communication central to mainstream industries. In an evolving market, users demand new and richer experiences, further increasing the need for professionals skilled in visual communication. In today's world, where technology advances rapidly and permeates every aspect of life, communication design graduates, who blend technology and aesthetics, have broad career opportunities in both the public and private sectors. They can work in desktop publishing for newspapers, magazines, and publishing houses, digital publishing platforms, design agencies, gaming platforms, television and cinema industries, and internet-based platforms, as well as in public institutions and other digital spaces that require well-trained communication design experts. The program is ideal for individuals interested in design, technology, and cinema, those who follow current design and technology trends, and anyone with strong communication skills or a desire to develop them, aiming for a career in these sectors.

Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema

The Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema aims to train artists equipped with both artistic and technical knowledge and experience in the field of communication. With the advancements in technology, the department provides broader opportunities for creative expression and diversifies career paths through the increasing number of digital platforms. By combining the latest scientific and technological developments with the deep-rooted knowledge and experience of art, the department continues to nurture new talents for both creative and practical artistic productions. Graduates of the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema have a wide range of career opportunities. They can work in oral and visual broadcasting companies, TRT (Turkish Radio and Television Corporation), private radio and television channels, the advertising sector, film and digital media production, and the cinema industry. Opportunities for academic advancement are also available. Prospective students who are interested in culture and the arts, wish to create innovative works in this field, and are keen to follow the latest developments and technological advancements in radio, television, and cinema may consider choosing this program.

Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts

The Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts aims to train future leaders, successful chefs, managers, and experts in the field who possess a deep understanding of the intricacies of Turkish and world culinary arts, have artistic sensibilities, and can compete on both national and international platforms. Gastronomy and Culinary Arts is a rapidly growing field with immense potential, and there is a high demand for trained chefs and academicians. Since nutrition is a fundamental need throughout life, it will continue to evolve and remain essential. Graduates of the department can work in various sectors, including public institutions, academia, and private enterprises, wherever food and beverage services are offered. They have significant career opportunities in five-star hotel kitchens, food and beverage businesses, institutional kitchens, cruise ships organizing travel services, and catering companies. Graduates can be employed in positions such as gastronomy specialist, manager, chef, sous chef, section chef, and pastry chef. Additionally, they have the opportunity to pursue academic careers. The Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts is ideal for students who are not only passionate about cooking and creating new recipes but are also interested in the history and culture of gastronomy, nutrition, food hygiene, world cuisines, bakery products, pastry arts, and applications like chocolate making.

Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design

The Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design offers a four-year undergraduate program designed as the first step in lifelong learning. Its primary goal is to train interior architects who can develop innovative, original, and sustainable ideas to address potential problems and create various arrangements in the design and planning of interior spaces and their surroundings. These professionals are also expected to specialize in the relationship between interior architecture and human-environment interactions. The department's ongoing and future mission is to cultivate interior architects capable of solving design and planning challenges with innovative and sustainable ideas while adhering to local, regional, national, and cultural sensitivities and ethical values. This includes fostering interdisciplinary work that will continue to be relevant in the future. Graduates of the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design encounter their first career opportunities during summer internships, which begin after the second and third academic years. Upon graduation, they have a wide range of career options, including working in architecture and interior design studios they establish themselves, within construction teams, or across private and public institutions. They may also pursue academic careers.
