The article co-authored by Res. Asst. Merve Karadaban from the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA) at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), and Prof. Dr. Gülşen Özaydın has been published in the 71st issue of the journal Praksis. The study examines the changing intervention tools of the state and the urban transformation processes in Karabük following the privatization of Kardemir.

Privatization and Socio-Spatial Transformation
Focusing on Kardemir, which was privatized in 1995, the study examines the functioning of neoliberal statism in Turkey. The article argues that privatization did not end the state's economic presence; on the contrary, the state re-established its impact on the company by changing its intervention tools and institutional structure. This restructuring of the state is evaluated over three different periods: its financial savior role, regulatory governance, and strategic investment relations.
Contribution of the TÜBİTAK-Supported Research
The research reveals that the urban shrinkage and revaluation processes observed in Karabük cannot be explained solely by market functioning, but must be considered together with state interventions such as planning and strategic ownership. The article in question was prepared within the scope of Res. Asst. Karadaban's doctoral thesis study, which is supported by the TÜBİTAK 2214-A International Research Fellowship Programme for PhD Students.
