Res. Asst. Başak Lâle successfully passes doctoral thesis monitoring committee!

Başak Lale, Research Assistant in the Department of Interior Architecture at the Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), successfully completed the thesis monitoring committee as part of her doctoral program at Hacettepe University, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design.
In her thesis, Res. Asst. Başak Lâle analyzes the formation of "cul-de-sac" structures, which are key features of traditional urban morphology, from the perspective of the interior architecture discipline. Having focused on architectural/interior architecture history and theory since her master's studies, Lâle is now conducting her fieldwork in Istanbul, building on her previous research in Ankara. The committee included Assoc. Prof. Duygu Koca (Thesis Supervisor) and Assoc. Prof. Emre Demirel from Hacettepe University, and Assoc. Prof. Umut Şumnu from Başkent University, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design. During her presentation, Res. Asst. Başak Lâle shared current field and archival data, her thesis text, and provided references for the process expected to be completed by the next committee meeting.

“It was a highly productive and guiding committee for me…”

Research Assistant Başak Lâle's comments on the feedback she received for her work are as follows:

“In the focus of architectural and interior architecture history, it has always been very important for me to examine an area or space not only in terms of its historical form but also to consider it from a socio-cultural perspective. In this committee of my ongoing thesis work, I had the opportunity to present the spatial and socio-cultural data I obtained about my subject. The supportive and guiding comments of my esteemed professors in the committee motivated me greatly. I extend my respect and thanks to each of them for their suggestions.”

We congratulate Res. Asst. Başak Lâle and thank the esteemed members of the thesis jury, Assoc. Prof. Duygu Koca, Assoc. Prof. Emre Demirel, and Assoc. Prof. Umut Şumnu, for their valuable comments and leadership.
