Digital Security and Networks Discussed in the “Future Skills” Event Series!

In the seventh week of the “Future Skills” event series, the Faculty of Fine Arts at Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) focused on one of the most important topics of the digital age — cybersecurity. The seminar, held on Thursday, April 24, in classroom K-605, featured Asst. Prof. Rabiya Saltık Duvan from the Department of Visual Communication Design, who delivered a talk titled “Digital Security and Networks: How Can We Protect Ourselves from Cyber Threats?”

The session addressed key issues such as the security risks individuals face in digital environments, personal data protection, password management, social engineering attacks, security concerns of public networks, and digital hygiene habits. Dr. Saltık Duvan emphasized that digital security is not only a matter of technical expertise but also a fundamental area of awareness for all users.

Participants were introduced to preventive measures through real-life examples of cyberattacks they might encounter in their daily lives. Throughout the event, practical topics such as social media account security, two-factor authentication, recognizing fake links, and using reliable applications were highlighted.

The event drew strong interest from students and became highly interactive during the Q&A session. The discussion emphasized that digital security is closely tied to individual responsibility and that future digital citizens must act consciously in online environments.

Under the “Future Skills” theme, the event series continues to equip students with the essential competencies of the future, addressing skills from diverse disciplines in a holistic and interdisciplinary manner.
