İstanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), conducted an interview with Radio Television and Cinema Department second-year student Yağmur Alkın about her on-camera acting experience and career plans:
Hello Yağmur. Can you introduce yourself? What are your interests?
Hello, I’m Yağmur Alkın. I was born in 2004 and I’m a student in the Radio, Television, and Cinema Department. My interests change from time to time, but for a long time, I’ve been interested in watching series and movies, visiting museums, and traveling to intriguing places.
You actively participate in events and projects organized by our department. How do these experiences impact your life?
I’ve taken part in significant and large-scale events such as the 2nd International Short Film, Video, and Photography Symposium and the 11th International Uşak Short Film Festival, organized by our department. With every event and project, I gain experience and learn which areas I excel in and which areas I need to improve. This has been a guiding factor for me in planning my future.
You acted in a commercial film through collaborations organized by our department. How was the process?
It was a delightful experience. Being among the faces that the brand was considering for their commercial film and eagerly waiting to see who they would choose was quite exciting. After that, everything progressed quickly — we received the location and schedule details, and we completed the shoot with a very friendly and professional team.
With the education you receive, you are also learning behind-the-camera processes and preparing for the industry. How do you compare the experience of being in front of the camera with working behind the scenes?
In my opinion, working behind the camera is more stressful and requires zero mistakes because any error in the background could affect the entire project. Of course, every role is valuable and exciting in its own way. Both areas are incredibly enjoyable but come with their unique challenges.
What advice would you give to students considering an on-camera acting career?
I would recommend that they don’t choose this path solely for fame and without proper training. Before making this decision, they should ask themselves, “Why do I want this profession? Can I handle the responsibilities and work discipline it requires?” With good education and experience, I believe they can eventually achieve their goals.
We thank our student Yağmur Alkın for sharing her thoughts with us.
