 A cinematic journey from IGU Film Academy to Mardin
Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Film Academy has taken an important step in Mardin for the Dara Film Workshop, planned to be implemented in collaboration with the Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF).

Following meetings with Mardin Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism, Vural Güngör, it was decided that cinema workshops aimed especially at young people living in disadvantaged regions will begin in the spring. The project seeks to introduce youth to the creative world of cinema while contributing to regional cultural production.
 
Prof. Dr. Şükran Güzin Ilıcak Aydınalp, Dean of IGU Faculty of Fine Arts, emphasized that the project is more than an educational program and highlighted the importance of universities taking an active role in social responsibility initiatives. She noted that the Dara Film Workshop, carried out through the collaboration between IGU Film Academy and GSF, aims to expand young people’s artistic expression and introduce them to the magic of cinema at an early age. Designed particularly for high school students, the program is expected to enhance creative thinking skills and encourage participants to tell their own stories.
 
The four-week comprehensive training program will cover topics such as camera operation, editing, lighting, documentary cinema, and documentary scriptwriting. At the end of the training, participants will put their knowledge into practice by shooting the Dara Documentary. The gala screening of the completed documentary is planned to take place at the Mardin Artuklu University Conference Hall.
 
The workshop will be coordinated by Ahmet Bikiç, Deputy Head of Public Relations and Promotion Department at Istanbul Gelisim University and a film director, while Feyat Öner, a student from the Radio, Television and Cinema Department of IGU Faculty of Fine Arts, will also take part in the coordination process. Bringing together academic expertise and institutional communication experience, the project aims to provide young people with early access to artistic production.
 
Through the Dara Film Workshop carried out in collaboration with Istanbul Gelisim University, the Film Academy, and the Faculty of Fine Arts, the initiative aims to increase young people’s access to art, strengthen cultural memory through cinema, and contribute to the development of future filmmakers.
