"Interior Architecture Talks" organized by the Interior Architecture and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Departments was held on 30 March 2022 with the participation of Prof. Dr. Genco Berkin.
The conversation started with Assoc. Prof. Zerrin Funda ÜRÜK presenting Prof. Dr. Genco BERKİN's CV in detail before the presentation. Prof. Dr. Genco BERKİN was born in Niğde in 1971. He graduated from Kadıköy Anatolian High School in 1990. In 1995, he studied architecture at the University of Lefke. He completed his master's degree in architecture at Eastern Mediterranean University in 1998. He received his doctorate from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2006. He received the title of associate professor in 2015. He has given lectures on architecture at universities. Berkin, who received the title of professor in 2020, works at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Foundation University.
After the presentation of his CV, Prof. Dr.Genco BERKİN, who went to his presentation, first talked about the necessity of liking, having taste and being gusto in order to be a successful interior architect or architect. He emphasized that interior architects or architects should not leave the initiative to someone else when it comes to these features and designs.
Continuation of the conversation Prof. Dr. Genco BERKİN, “Always look to discover!” He mentioned the importance for an interior architect of carefully looking at the details and materials of the designs around us. He drew attention to the designs of designers such as Carlo Scarpa, Bruno Zevi, Zaha Hadid, Philippe Starck, Bernard Tschumi, to important examples, and to the use of materials.
He mentioned the properties of materials frequently used in interior design such as Steel Corten, Corian, Libra Stone, Barisol. He emphasized that the problems arising from the possibilities and capabilities of the material should be solved with details. He stated that in addition to the basic properties of the materials, the classes of the materials also cause great differences in their use. For example, he pointed out that the class of wood is very important for the product to be used and the main feature that determines the class of wood is the number of knots.
Prof. Dr. Genco BERKIN answered the questions from the students after the presentation, which included very valuable information in order to raise awareness of the importance of mastering the details in order to be a successful interior architect.
