 Research Assistant Gökçe Uzgören and Research Assistant Merve Karadaban Participated in the Doctoral Workshop!

Research Assistant Gökçe Uzgören and Research Assistant Merve Karadaban participated in the Doctoral Workshop within the 9th Urban and Regional Research Network (KBAM) Symposium on December 15-17, 2023.
As part of the 9th Urban and Regional Research Network (KBAM) Symposium, within the scope of the "Doctoral Workshop", Research Assistant Gökçe Uzgören "The Political Economy of Short-Term Accommodation Platforms: Airbnb as a New Actor in the Hyper-Metalization of Housing in the Digital Age", while research assistant Gökçe Uzgören participated through her doctoral thesis. Research Assistant Merve Karadaban, on the other hand, presented her dissertation on "Addressing the Spatial Transformation in Karabük through the Restructuring of Industry: Karabuk Iron and Steel Factory and its Privatization".
 
The Urban and Regional Research Network (KBAM) emphasizes the importance of cooperation and information sharing in the scientific world. The network, which encourages the collaborative work of scientists, brings together people who conduct research, develop policies, and conduct applied studies on urban and regional issues.  KBAM aims to increase the interaction of the scientific community by organizing annual symposia and additional events. It also organizes doctoral workshops to support young researchers. 
 
In this context, the main theme of the ninth KBAM Symposium was determined as "the spatial and social causes of the transformation of disasters into crises, the role of institutional structuring, planning, and spatial studies". In the symposium, the past, problems, and future of planning in Turkey were discussed in detail and the development of a new planning system was discussed. 

In the presentations of our Research Assistants representing our faculty in the workshop, the discussants were Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Penpecioğlu from Izmir High Technology University and Assistant Prof. Sezen Savran Penpecioğlu from Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University. Asst. Prof. Sezen Savran Penpecioğlu from Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, while the moderator was Prof. Dr. Hilal Erkuş from Akdeniz University.
