Lecturer Bülent Deveci, from the academic staff of the Graphic Design Department of Istanbul Gelişim University, brings together painting and cinema in his exhibition titled “Picture Tales of Metropol”. While Deveci uses the narrative language of cinema in his productions, he makes use of the power of painting in details such as frame and composition.

 

Bülent Deveci expressed the conceptual infrastructure of the exhibition in the following words:

 

“…Metropolitans are our fastest changing habitats. They will continue to be so and to change with us because that is how we want it to be. On the other hand, in this process of change at certain times in our lives, we must question ourselves. Must take a sharp, abrupt stance, (starting with ourselves) we should question everything that is not right in our lives. Without missing an important point (and without letting anyone miss it)... I hope my exhibition will create a sharp, immediate awareness for visitors.”

 

Who is Lecturer Bülent Deveci?

 

Born in 1973 in Istanbul, Bülent Deveci has provided advertising design services to global companies such as Coca-Cola, 3M, Unilever, Pfizer, Nutricia, Pladis, THY, AkzoNobel, and Fiat in national and international advertising agencies since 1995.

 

After graduating from Mimar Sinan University Fine Arts University, Graphic Design Department in 1998, he first traveled to the geography of his country for 1 year. After 1999, he traveled to more than 30 countries in Europe, North and South America, Far and Central Asia, and Africa.

He made tourist and cultural trips. After each trip, he shared his impressions and experiences with people by opening personal and group exhibitions in the fields of photography, illustration, and painting.

 

In 2004, open sea swimming and sailing sports were added to the nature sports that started with mountaineering and caving in the 90s. Since 2005, he has been participating in sailing races as a licensed athlete in the Pirat Sailing class on behalf of the Kalamış Sailing Club.

 

The designer, who is still working as Art Director at Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Lecturer at Istanbul Gelişim University, argues that the boundaries between people, countries, and art and design disciplines are not clear and precise, contrary to what many people think. It creates its productions with an interdisciplinary approach. As in the past, he continues to produce in different art and design fields such as sculpture, industrial design, painting, illustration, photography, and story.
