 Intense Interest in Short and Foreign Events!
The event series "Short and ..." organized by Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), Radio, Television and Cinema Department continues to attract great attention.

“Short and” is known as an event series organized by the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema, where interviews are held specifically for short films. The seventh of the series of events, in which interviews were held under the titles of Short and Cheap, Short and Academic, Short and Thoughtful, Short and Funny, Short and Social, and Short and Technical, was held online under the title Short and Foreign. The Short and Foreign event was moderated by the department head asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Doğan and with the participation of director Soner Sert.

 

The Stranger and the Other in Cinema

 

The interview with the director Soner Sert's short film "Hastabakıcı/Abigail" proceeded in the form of conversations and questions and answers after watching the film. In the framework of the title of Short and Foreigner, which refers to the theme of the movie, thoughts on the story of the characters who are other in the cinema were shared. Soner Sert shared his understanding of cinema with the students in the conversation, which revolved around some questions such as how the foreigner is positioned in the script and how this positioning is conveyed in the visual language. Sert shared the situations, coincidences, and the writing process of the script with the students during the shooting of the film, and made the students a partner in the adventure of the film. Stating that they liked the film at every opportunity, the students asked questions of the director and expressed their opinions about their understanding of cinema and production styles. Answering asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Doğan's questions, director Soner Sert stated that he is currently preparing a feature-length project and that he is progressing on similar themes.

 

The event, which attracted great interest from the students, ended after the questions and answers were completed.

Events Will Continue

 

At the end of the event, Asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Doğan stated that the spring term of the 2022-2023 academic year is approaching and closed the last “Short and…” event of the term. Giving the good news that the event series organized by the department will continue face-to-face in the new period, Doğan directed the students to the department's web page and social media accounts.
