Graphic Design Department Students Opened the First Group Exhibition of the Year!
Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), Graphic Design Department students opened the first mixed student exhibition of the new term under the direction of Lecturer İrem Fulya Özkan.
Organized for the fall semester opening of the 2022-2023 academic year, the "International Mixed Student Projects Exhibition" was presented to the attention of art lovers on October 28 at the entrance floor of Block K and the Foyer of Mehmet Akif Ersoy Conference Hall. The exhibition is compiled from projects produced by students for the themes of "Abstract Typography" and "Typographic Poster", which they prepared within the scope of "Typography I" and "Typography III" courses. Lecturer İrem Fulya Özkan, the director of both courses, talked about the importance of the projects prepared for the exhibition and said that the exhibitions will continue in the next period.
Projects That Can Feel Emerged
Emphasizing the importance of typography, which has the task of building a bridge between text and meaning, in the field of design, Özkan stated that typography has the power to create multiple layers of meaning, both as a text and as a stained entity. Referring to the features of the projects prepared with the abstract concepts chosen by the students, in which only typographic elements are used and the concepts are visualized without being taught, Özkan revealed the quality of the projects by saying that, “The anatomical features of the typographic elements, color, proportion-proportion and composition practices and the concepts were reflected. Thus, projects that can be felt have emerged.”
Works Should be Shared
Stating that exhibiting students' projects is an important experience for students as well, Özkan stated that exhibitions have a positive effect on students' motivation to create. She underlined that the studies carried out in this sense offer an area where they can freely express themselves through their designs, starting from the production process. Emphasizing that art becomes meaningful when shared, Özkan underlined the need to share the created works with art lovers as much as possible. Özkan said that the support of Gelişim University and the Faculty of Fine Arts in providing exhibition areas for students and academics and in delivering the exhibitions to the masses through social media channels is also important, adding that group student exhibitions will continue.
We congratulate Lecturer İrem Fulya Özkan and our Typography I and Typography III course students and wish them success in their future studies.
