Cinema Club Event: “A Modern in the Steppe” Documentary Film Screening and Interview with the Director Kurtuluş Özgen
Academician & Filmmaker Kurtuluş Özgen became a guest of İGÜ under the leadership of Cinema Club.
Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts, Cinema and Television Department students showed great interest to the Cinema Club’s “A Modern in the Steppe” Documentary Film Screening organized as open to public and Interview with the Director Kurtuluş Özgen event at the E Block Conference Hall.
Assoc. Prof. Sevtap Aytuğ, the Head of Cinema and Television Department, and all of the academicians of the Department of Cinema and Television took their place in the event. In addition, Lec. Oya Tong, Head of the Radio and Television Programming Department at the İGÜ Vocational School, who contributed greatly to the organization of the event, also participated in the event.
Academician & Filmmaker Kurtuluş Özgen, who has important works on documentary film, said that his new project “A Modern in the Steppe”, which is one hour long, was presented to a wide audience for the first time. The film that won the students' appreciation, which is the first plant of the Republic of Turkey is the focus of Sümerbank Cloth Factory. The construction phase of the factory opened in Kayseri in 1935, the production process and the people who worked in the factory for one term and their relatives form the content of the documentary. The film, which has been supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, has been presented with archival footage, as well as images and interviews from the cities of Kayseri and Moscow.
The event was completed with a film interview and interview with Kurtuluş Özgen, the director of the film. After the event, Cinema Club President Cinema and Television Department 2nd year student Tayfun Kurusıkı presented a plaque to Kurtuluş Özgen for his contributions to our university.
