Buildings Touching the Stars: The World's Most Fascinating Skyscrapers!

As part of September 3, Skyscraper Day, which aims to encourage people to learn more about the art of building skyscrapers, we've compiled highlights about some of the most important skyscraper structures in the world. Here are the most fascinating skyscrapers in the world…

There are different definitions of skyscrapers in the literature, which first appeared in the USA at the end of the 19th century. According to Duru (2001: 233), on the one hand, the skyscrapers rising in cities are seen as the result of concrete social developments such as the concentration of capital in certain places, the acceleration of urbanization, the increase in the value of urban lands, and the imbalance in income distribution, on the other hand, it is the result of human control over nature and technological developments. It is considered as an expression of wealth, power and rationality. Therefore, it is possible to consider skyscrapers not only as high architectural structures, but also as symbolic assets in cities.

In addition, there are important discussions about the construction process, operation and maintenance of skyscrapers and the living conditions in these areas. As a matter of fact, there are various studies that show that life in multi-storey buildings creates social problems and that the crime rate in high-rise buildings increases. It is known that in some countries, in order to overcome these problems, programs for returning to settlements in the low-rise classical neighborhood structure have been put into practice.

On the other hand, developments such as capitalist urbanization policies applied to construct today's consumption spaces and financial centers rising in city centers show that new skyscrapers will continue to be added to the existing skyscrapers. At this point, it is important to encourage people to learn more about the art of building skyscrapers, which sheds light on the development of various professions such as construction, architecture, interior design. September 3, Skyscraper Day is celebrated for such a purpose. For this purpose, we have compiled the highlights of some of the most important skyscraper structures in the world.
