Within the scope of Design Fest '21, “On the Istanbul For Us Project: How We Started, What Are We Doing?” Interview was held

Within the scope of Design Fest '21, organized by Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), with the participation of Seray Nisa Yavuz and Ahmet Taha Demirci from the Istanbul Gelisim University İstanbul For Us Project team, “On the Istanbul For Us Project: How We Started, What Are We Doing? ” The interview was held.

Res. Asst. Eliz Mutlu moderated the conversation, which started at 14.00 on May 6, 2021. The interview, attended by a total of 89 listeners, started with Seray Yavuz and Ahmet Taha Demirci introducing themselves. Then he continued with Res. Asst. Eliz Mutlu's questions. First of all, the conversation started by talking about the starting point of the İstanbul For Us Project. Stating that the starting point of the project came from the projects made within the scope of Asst. Prof. Dr. Pelin Aykut's Art History Course and the projects made within the scope of the course, Seray Yavuz emphasized that Asst. Prof. Dr. Pelin Aykut's support and trust were very valuable when starting this project.

In the continuation of the conversation, Seray Yavuz and Ahmet Taha Demirci talked about how we think the Istanbul Team came together and the value added to the project by the different departments working together. When the project started, the team stated that there were students and graduates from interior architecture, graphic design, communication design, cinema/television departments, and that the project was greatly nourished by this unity. Then, Seray Yavuz made the following statements about the goals of the project at the beginning and how their goals changed with the pandemic process that they encountered later:

“When we started the project, we set out to vlog different districts of Istanbul with our friends from different departments, departments such as graphics, communication design and cinema and television, our aim was to introduce the city we live in from our own perspective by vlogging, but then the vlogs were interrupted by the intervention of the pandemic. When the vlogs were interrupted, we turned to Instagram. Those who graduated from our friends later became our friends who started their business life. As a result, we are left with three people who are actively working.”

In the continuation of the conversation, Ahmet Taha Demirci expressed the purpose of his work as follows:

“The general purpose of our posts is to raise awareness in people, to try to show them places in Istanbul they have lived but not seen, and even to encourage them to go there. In the first years of the university, we were not that interested in Istanbul, we started this project with the guidance of our lessons and our teachers, and maybe we can be an inspiration to others. The purpose of our posts is both to teach and to attract people to a little more art, structure and this lane.”

The session ended with the questions and answers of Res. Asst. Okan Kırbacı, Res. Asst. Gökçe Uzgören and Res. Asst. Merve Karadaban.

We thank them very much for their participation and wish them continued success.
