1. First of all, could you introduce yourself? Could you tell us about your educational background?
Hello, first of all. After completing my undergraduate education in Architecture at Istanbul Aydın University, I decided to pursue a master's degree in the same field. Throughout my education, my research particularly focused on the intersection of architecture and cinema, spatial psychology, and the transformation of space throughout history. During my undergraduate studies, I worked on architecture and art history, which gave me an important perspective when deciding which branch of architecture to direct my academic career toward. I aim to use the knowledge and experience I have gained during my education to shape my academic career.
2. What was the focus of your master’s thesis, and how did you decide on this topic?
During my master’s studies, I completed my thesis titled *"An Analysis of a Director at the Intersection of Architecture and Cinema: Wes Anderson."* The process of choosing this topic began with the foundation laid during my undergraduate studies in architecture and art history, combined with my strong interest in cinema and film analysis courses.
Architecture and cinema establish a strong relationship through spatial design. Cinema uses spaces to create an emotional and visual world that serves the narrative.
This not only made me think deeply in an academic sense but also provided a significant opportunity to identify gaps in the literature. Additionally, the fact that studies at the intersection of cinema and architecture are still not widespread in our country encouraged me to pursue my thesis in this area.
3. What sources or theoretical frameworks inspire your academic work the most?
In my academic work, I generally try to focus on spatial psychology, perception, readability, and architectural history, particularly Early Republican Period architecture. The studies of my professors at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, where I completed my master’s degree, significantly shaped my approach to the subject. These theoretical frameworks have allowed me to conduct my analyses and interpretations in a more in-depth manner.
4. In which areas do you plan to specialize further in your future academic studies?
In the future, I plan to conduct more in-depth research specifically on the themes of space, city, and psychology. Research in this area holds significant value both scientifically and socially. Additionally, during my ongoing doctoral studies, I aim to further advance my work on space by combining architecture with other art disciplines. In this process, I intend to conduct interdisciplinary and collaborative research to gain a more comprehensive perspective. By doing so, I hope to contribute to both academia and my students.
