Research Assistant Mustafa Dallı Attended ISHAD2021 5th International Natural Disasters and Disaster Management Symposium

An increasing number of natural disasters around the world in the last few years require the development of new ideas and innovative methods to inform the understanding and research of natural hazards, manage disasters and reduce losses. The International Natural Disasters and Disaster Management Symposium is an annual symposium organized by the Academic Platform since 2016. It is a forum that provides a forum for publishing original, cutting-edge research and critical reviews on natural disasters and disaster management. In this context, the conference creates a platform that brings together academics, experts, bureaucrats, administrators, institutions, students, local governments and non-governmental organizations to better understand, share, change and update natural disasters and disaster management. In this context, the 5th International Natural Disaster and Disaster Management Symposium (ISHAD2021) was held online between 5-7 November 2021 in partnership with Academic Platform and Sakarya University of Applied Sciences. In the symposium; In addition to the general disaster issues, the subjects included disaster-sensitive urbanization, use of computers and technology in disasters, earthquake-resistant building design, risk analysis and disaster management in natural disasters, disaster resistance and sustainability, fire and ground problems.

"The topics and papers in the 5th International Symposium on Natural Disaster and Disaster Management (ISHAD2021) were quite exciting. The topics and papers presented at the symposium, especially earthquake resistant building design, which is my thesis topic, were of utmost importance for a country like Turkey that needs to be conscious about earthquakes and disasters. The fact that many academics and researchers expressed different opinions on disaster, disaster management and earthquake resistant building design was very effective in the diversity of the proposals. In addition, the concept of 'disaster awareness', which was conveyed by experts in various fields, diversified their perspectives. This diversity of the symposium, namely the presence of researchers from disciplines such as social sciences, engineering and architecture, helped me discover areas that could be added to my thesis and researched on. Apart from this, the expected 'Great Istanbul Earthquake', the precautions to be taken and the issues to be considered were underlined at the symposium."
