Lecturer Dr. Enver Tatlısu Successfully Passed His Doctoral Thesis Defense!

Lecturer Dr. Enver Tatlısu, from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Istanbul Gelişim University (İGÜ), successfully completed his doctoral education in the Department of Industrial Design, Industrial Design Program at Istanbul Technical University's Graduate School of Education by defending his doctoral thesis.

The summary of Lecturer Dr. Enver Tatlısu's doctoral thesis titled "Building a Bridge Between the Product and the User: A Design Framework for Establishing a Free Relationship with Technology" is as follows:

“In the doctoral thesis titled "Bridging Between Product and User: Designing a Framework for Cultivating a Free Relationship with Technology in the Age of Crises and Transformations of the 21st Century," it is argued that the prevailing understanding of technology, which defines it merely as a tool and a purely human activity in the era defined as the age of crises and transformations of the 21st century, fails to address the environmental, social, and economic crises we face today. Instead, the thesis advocates for considering technology as techne-logos, which is the combination of design, art, craftsmanship, and scientific knowledge, to overcome these crises. The necessity of viewing technology as a holistic combination of various elements is emphasized, challenging the traditional separation of concepts such as nature-human, production-consumption, and design-production, which are inherently interconnected. The thesis proposes that through design, bridges can be built between these inseparable components, and it introduces the HOOME Design Framework, which has been developed within the scope of the thesis and tested in industrial design projects. These projects demonstrate that holistic, symbiotic, and empathic relationships can be developed between technology, society, and nature. Furthermore, it is highlighted that design is not limited to the design of functional products but also plays a crucial role in establishing harmonious relationships between users, products, and nature. The projects developed within the context of the thesis have received awards in international design competitions, been exhibited in galleries and biennials, and shared with the public.”

We congratulate Lecturer  Dr. Enver Tatlısu on completing his doctoral education and wish him success in his academic career.
