Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department Held an External Stakeholder Meeting with RGM Design

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department has taken a significant step forward in its mission to combine academic knowledge with sectoral dynamics, aiming to prepare its students for the future in the best possible way. As part of the Spring Semester of the 2024–2025 Academic Year, the department organized a strategic external stakeholder meeting to enhance interaction with the industry and directly contribute to students’ professional development.

This pivotal meeting was held online via Google Meet on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 1:00 PM. The guest speaker was Ruken Güngör, a respected interior architect and the founder of the renowned architecture and interior design firm RGM Design. The primary aim of the meeting was to strengthen the bridge between academia and the professional world in line with current industry needs and expectations, support students’ career readiness after graduation, and explore opportunities for long-term collaboration.

During the productive discussion, various ideas were exchanged to enhance the quality of interior architecture education, and potential collaborative projects, sector-related activities, and internship opportunities for students were thoroughly discussed. Emphasis was placed on creating practical applications where students can reinforce their theoretical knowledge and gain sectoral experience.

One of the focal points of the meeting was the planning of events where students can directly engage with industry professionals and closely follow current trends. Accordingly, a technical seminar focusing on innovations and developments in interior architecture was scheduled to be held between May 10–30, offering students a chance to expand their knowledge and broaden their perspectives.

Another key agenda item was the provision of internship opportunities. RGM Design agreed to offer internships to up to five students from IGU’s Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department during the 2025 summer term. This internship program will enable students to actively participate in real-life projects, closely observe the industry in practice, and learn from experienced professionals.

The final important topic of the meeting was the inclusion of industry professionals in academic evaluation processes. It was unanimously decided to invite Ruken Güngör to serve as a jury member for the student project evaluations at the end of the Fall 2025 semester. With her sectoral expertise and critical perspective, Güngör is expected to provide constructive feedback and contribute to the development of student projects.

This successful stakeholder meeting demonstrated the Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department’s commitment to delivering the best possible education and preparing its students for the competitive job market of the future. Through planned events and collaborations, students are expected to align their academic skills with industry expectations and step confidently into their professional careers. The collaboration is also expected to grow stronger in the upcoming periods through new projects and joint initiatives.
