In the second issue of "ART/icle: Art and Design Journal", which is published twice a year in June and December by Istanbul Gelişim University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Interior Architecture, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Departments Asst. Prof. İlayda Çetin's article on the sample of the Cotton Factory selected from the renovated historical buildings in Venice, the renovation research with the SWOT analysis method, and the relationship between the building and its new architecture has been published.

The summary of the relevant article is as follows:

“Cultural and natural heritage are special values presented to the people of the region through social developments and environmental factors. At the same time, as a world heritage, it should be protected within the framework of this value and importance and should be transferred to the next generations. Cultural assets should be protected and protected even as a primitive technique belonging to a production method, as well as being aesthetically or fictionally qualified representatives and witnesses of the cultures to which they belong. Historical buildings, which are not re-functionalized, are subject to various wear and tear, not only due to disuse and deterioration caused by environmental conditions, but also due to changes in the social and economic conditions in their surroundings. These wear and tear can cause dangerous corrosion and destruction. From another point of view; The loss of cultural heritage structures that are not protected or re-functionalized also creates a loss in the world heritage. For this purpose, it is necessary to establish permanent and effective protection rules based on modern and scientific methods for cultural and natural assets that need to be protected, and to provide acceptance in the context of world countries based on conventions. In short, all research to identify, document and restore heritage structures that are on the verge of extinction is extremely important. In order to transfer the heritage structures of a country to the future, it is necessary to first understand the existing ones and identify their problems. In order to eliminate these problems, it is necessary to act within the framework of rules and regulations. In some cases, it may be necessary to provide a new function, in addition to maintenance and repair, in order to provide protection and to continue the existence of the structure as a part of the city.
In the light of these, in this study, the renovation research and the relationship between the mentioned old building and the new architecture were examined using the SWOT analysis method, by taking the Cotton Factory selected from the renovated historical buildings in Venice as an example. The SWOT items have been created to evaluate both the internal and external factors of the building as environmental, architectural and technical. The function to be loaded into the structure examined by this method; In this respect, its inputs have been determined and its advantages and disadvantages have been revealed. In addition, answers were found to understand the suitability of the current state of the building for the new function to be installed.”
We congratulate dear Asst. Prof. Cansın İlayda Çetin and wish her continued success.
