Organized by the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), the 2024–2025 Academic Year External Stakeholder Event took place on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 12:00 PM on the 14th floor of the university. The face-to-face event, enriched by the expertise of seasoned interior architect Ruken Güngör, focused on the role of environmentally friendly design principles in interior architecture practice.
The seminar aimed to increase students’ awareness of current ecological design practices and to strengthen their professional sensibilities. Emphasis was placed on the efficient use of natural resources, the preference for recyclable and natural materials in construction, the integration of energy-saving systems, and the importance of indoor air quality and other environmental factors.
The first part of the presentation covered comprehensive sustainable interior design solutions. Topics included the effective use of natural lighting and ventilation in spatial design, the significance of façade systems in sustainability, and the integration of energy-efficient technologies into architectural projects. Additionally, samples of recycled or natural materials were shared, enabling students to make more informed decisions in material selection.
In the second part of the event, successful sustainable interior architecture projects from public spaces such as hotels, stadiums, and museums were showcased. These case studies highlighted the understanding that sustainability is not merely a design preference but also an ethical responsibility. With students actively engaging through their questions, the seminar evolved into an interactive session. It concluded with a shared consensus on the need for environmentally conscious designs to gain greater prominence in professional practice.
We extend our sincere thanks to all students who participated and to Ruken Güngör for her valuable contributions.
