Interior Architecture And Environmental Design (English)

A New Book Chapter by Lecturer Cansu Sözer

Lecturer Eda Cansu Sözer from the English Program of the Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department, Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), has contributed a new book chapter to the academic publication Spatial Studies in an Age of Crises and Transformations.

Lecturer Cansu Sözer has taken part as a chapter author in the academic book Krizler ve Dönüşümler Çağında Mekânsal Çalışmalar, edited by Asst. Prof. Enver Tatlısu from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, and Asst. Prof. Parvin Heidari and Asst. Prof. Gökçe Uzgören from Istanbul Gelişim University. This comprehensive volume discusses contemporary cities within the interdisciplinary context of socio-economic, environmental, and spatial transformations. Sözer enriches the publication with her chapter titled “Neoliberalizmin Sosyo-Mekânsal Krizinde Pastiş Kentler”

In her chapter, Sözer critically examines how neoliberal policies reshape urban spaces, focusing particularly on the increasingly prevalent phenomenon of the “pastiche city” at a global scale. Her work analyzes how market-driven urban strategies generate standardized urban environments that erode local identity, weaken historical memory, and obscure the authentic character of place. Within this framework, she emphasizes that pastiche cities are not merely an aesthetic issue but also a manifestation of deepening social inequalities, cultural fragmentation, and the spatial loss of meaning.

We congratulate Lecturer Cansu Sözer and wish her continued success in her academic endeavors.
