 Summer internship guide is now live: fequently asked questions and key details


Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Department of Visual Communication Design has announced all the essential details that students need to follow in order to complete their internship process accurately and thoroughly.


📌 Application Period & Approval Process
Summer internship applications must be submitted at least 15 working days before the internship start date.
Students should first obtain approval via email from Departmental Chair Asst. Prof. Aslı Kasar by providing the name of the institution and the planned internship dates.

After receiving approval, students must complete the internship application form digitally and print three copies. These copies must be signed and stamped by the internship institution, the department head, and the student affairs office. One copy must also be submitted to the department research assistant.
 
Internship Period
Summer internships must be conducted between the end of the spring semester and the start of the fall semester.
Students who have completed at least their second semester may begin their mandatory internships.
Graduating students are not required to complete their internships during the summer. If they do not have any remaining coursework, they may complete their internships at any time.

No Overlap with Summer School
Students who are enrolled in summer school must schedule their internship before or after the summer school period.
It is not permitted to attend summer school and do an internship at the same time.

Internship Report & Evaluation Form
  • Internship Report: Must be completed digitally and include a minimum of 60 words per day. Every page must be signed and stamped by the workplace supervisor.
    Photos and visuals may be attached with glue or staples (paper clips are not allowed).
    If there are digital files, they should be burned to a CD and stapled inside the back cover of the report.
    Reports must be spiral-bound, hardcover, or have a spine. Plastic folders or stapled pages will not be accepted.
  • Evaluation Form (Sicil Fişi): Must be completed and sealed in a signed, stamped envelope by the workplace supervisor.
    All information must be filled out completely.
    If this is your first internship, tick the 1st Group Internship box; if it is your second, tick the 2nd Group Internship box.
    The attendance chart must exclude weekends and public holidays, and must be fully and accurately filled out.
Use of Visuals
Photos or visuals must be included only within the relevant daily pages of the internship report.
They must not be submitted separately.

Submission Deadline
Internship reports must be submitted within one month after completing the internship.

Frequently Asked Questions
 
  • When can I start my internship?
    From the last day of final exams in the spring semester.
  • Do I have a right to be absent?
    If a student misses more than 9 working days without an excuse, the internship will be considered invalid.
  • If my internship is extended, will my insurance continue?
    In case of excused absences, the internship may be extended, and the missing days will be covered with additional insurance, but only if reported in advance.
    If the student or the company does not inform the department, they bear full responsibility.
  • How is the workweek calculated?
    If the company works on Saturdays, 6 workdays are counted per week.
    If not, it is considered a 5-day workweek.
  • Can I do a voluntary internship after completing the mandatory one?
    No, students who have a mandatory internship requirement in their curriculum cannot do voluntary internships.
  • What if I already have health insurance from another job?
    On the application form, the question “Do you have insurance from another institution?” should be marked as “Yes.”
  • Can I submit one single report for 60 days?
    No. Students completing a 60-workday internship must submit two separate application forms and two separate reports (one for each 30-day period).
