CINEMA AGAINST OBSTACLES
Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Fine Arts brought “Special Students” together with Cinema
A brand new social responsibility project started, organized by Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), Radio, Television, and Cinema Department.
With the social responsibility project implemented in cooperation with Istanbul Gelişim University and Samyeli Private Education Institutions, it was aimed that special education students have a cinema experience and enter social interactive environments.
The project, which was organized to be implemented with three different special education groups in three different sessions, starts with the message “Cinema Against Barriers”. In the social responsibility project, which aims to reach special education students, a cinema event was organized in three different sessions with the student group with Down syndrome, the 0-6 age group, and the learning disability groups.
The First Session of the Special Education Cinema Days Social Responsibility Project Has Been Held!
The first session of the Special Education Cinema Days project was held on July 26, 2022, in the Pocket Cinema hall of the Radio, Television, and Cinema Department of Istanbul Gelisim University Fine Arts Faculty. Samyeli Special Education Institution teachers, special education groups with Down syndrome, and parents participated in the event.
Pre-screening Interview
The first of the activities, whose asst. Prof. Dr. Rabiya Saltik the project manager, started with Aydınalp's opening speech. Then, under the moderation of Saltik, a conversation was held with the participation of Samyeli Special Education Institutions teacher Ali Atlı and Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Special Education Department Lecturer Kadriye Yıldız. In the conversation, the importance and requirements of social responsibility projects for special education students and social responsibility projects that can be organized in the future were discussed.
Meaningful Movie for Special Education Students: “Champions”
After the talk, the movie screened. “Champions”, a Spanish movie made in 2018, was watched by a special education group with Down Syndrome. The warm atmosphere of the cast is felt in the film, in which private individuals perform amateur acts. The movie event was completed with pleasure with food and beverage snacks.

Interviewed after the cinema screening, special education parents expressed their satisfaction with participating in the social responsibility project and expressed their wish for such social responsibility projects to be realized in the future.
The social Responsibility Project Will Continue
The social responsibility project, which started with the message "Cinema against obstacles", will continue with new sessions in August and September.
