“How can I become an academician?” event was held with full scholarship students
Istanbul Gelisim University (İGÜ), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Radio, Television and Cinema Department organized an event titled “How can I become an academician?” for its full scholarship students.
The Radio, Television and Cinema Department supports mentoring its full scholarship students in their sectoral and academic career journeys. In the events organized every year for full scholarship students, students are guided to take part in university and departmental events, participate in stakeholder meetings, and reach out to guides to plan their career journeys.
“Combining Sectoral and Academic Productions is a Plus”
An event titled “How can I become an academician?” was organized for full scholarship students in the 2024-2025 Academic Year in order to inform them about academic career possibilities and plans. The event was moderated by Asst. Prof. Emre Doğan, Department Head of Radio, Television and Cinema Department. Doğan met with students with full scholarships and listened to their career plans; provided information about academic careers that they could include in their career planning. Stating that students can manage their jobs in parallel in the sector and in academia; that producing at the same time is also a plus for their academic lives, Doğan shared with the students the stages they need to go through in order if they are considering an academic career.
Asst. Prof. Emre Doğan shared with the students what an academic does, the equivalents of definitions such as research assistant, lecturer, assistant professor, associate professor, professor, dean, rector, job descriptions, master's and doctoral education processes, thesis writing stages, the exams that need to be taken and the scores that need to be obtained. Doğan stated that individuals who think that they will be happy to constantly learn and teach, who love to read and research, and who question will be successful in their academic careers. Doğan also answered the students' questions and talked about his own academic journey.
At the end of the event, he suggested that students should have social and academic initiatives such as writing projects, being involved in projects, and taking part in events and organizations during their education and training processes. Doğan, who talked about TUBİTAK projects, advised students to have the experience of writing a project when they have topics they want to research. Stating that they can receive consultancy from all faculty members in the department, Doğan ended the event after answering the questions.
