 Asst. Prof. Dr. Önder Paker Delivered a Conversation on “Raising Art-loving Children”


Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF) Radio, Television and Cinema department head Asst. Prof. Dr. Önder Paker had an interview with Pedagogy Specialist Mehtap Kundak on "Raising Art-loving Children". In the online conversation, the contribution of art in children's education was discussed.

Prof. Dr. Önder Paker, in the interview he attended, "Is it possible to raise children who love art?" based on the question, he put forward his views on the effect of art on people, especially on children.
 
Expressing that the feelings of fear and trust are the two most basic human emotions, Önder Paker said that these are the basic emotions that create art; He stated that the lack or completeness of these feelings affects the development of societies.
 
Noting that the words child and play are used side by side, he said that the act of playing can only be performed when an environment of trust is provided. He focused on art education at the point of creating an environment of trust and what can be done to ensure that children's cognitive processes progress in a healthy way.

He stated that the concept of information has changed with the digital world, and this situation poses a danger especially for newly grown children. There are two different views on the Z generation; He stated that this generation, which is very intelligent and numerically thinking, is perceived by some as a generation that cannot develop social relations and is prone to asociality. He stated that uploading numerical and test-style information to students eliminates the ability to criticize and interpret. He pointed out that the passive mindset that had formed gradually isolated this generation. In order to prevent this, it recommends enabling children to spend time with art, especially in the 0-4, 4-6, 12+ age range. He underlined that teachable emotions such as empathy, trust, compassion and compassion can be instilled in children in this way.
 
He explained the concepts of talent and aptitude, stated that people with these two phenomena could improve themselves further by taking art education and emphasized the importance of art education.
 
Önder Paker, who also answered the questions from the participants, stated that the Z generation is at a very progressive point in terms of sensitivity. He made comments on the future of cinema; He stated that cinema is advantageous in the process of transition to digital compared to other branches of art. He stated that digitalization has contributed to cinema in terms of the proliferation and dissemination of works.
