Research Assistant Tuğçe Öztürk Dallı from Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design (English) conducted an "Internship Orientation" session for students who will be undertaking their internships during the 2024-2025 Summer Term. The session took place on Friday, March 14, at 11:00 AM, in Studio Area K Block 1401. During the orientation presentation, students were informed about the following topics. Similarly, for students in the Turkish Program, Research Assistant Merve Karadaban Özen from the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design (Turkish Program) held an Internship Orientation on Monday, March 17, at 12:00 PM in Studio K Block 1401. After addressing students' questions at the end of the session, the orientation was successfully concluded. During the orientation session, students were informed about the following topics. The session concluded with a Q&A segment where students' questions were addressed.
How Does the Summer Internship Process Work?
We have answered the questions our students from the Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design (English) have about their mandatory summer internship.
When Can I Start My Internship?
Within the scope of Summer Internship I and Summer Internship II, students can complete their mandatory internships starting from their second semester. Students who are continuing their education are required to complete their internships during the summer term. However, this requirement does not apply to students who are in their graduation phase.
Summer term internships begin from the last day of the final exams of the spring semester. However, before starting the internship, the internship start date must be reported to the department chair and the dean's office at least 15 days in advance to ensure the internship insurance registration is processed. A separate form must be completed for every 30 working days.

Fill out the compulşory internship form digitally and sign the student signature section with a wet signature.

Obtain the necessary signatures from the Department Chair and the internship institution representative in the relevant sections.

Get the internship start form approved by Student Affairs to process the insurance registration (at least 15 days before the internship start date).
Do I Need to Submit My Internship Documents in Person?
For students whose internship is outside of Istanbul:
They must scan the internship start form (using a mobile application or scanner) and send it via their student email to
gsfstaj@gelisim.edu.tr.
For students whose internship is in Istanbul:
They must submit the internship start form in person in
3 copies (for those completing 60 working days, 3+3 copies are required).
Once the application form is approved, the insurance procedures will be initiated by Istanbul Gelişim University.
Do We Have the Right to Be Absent During the Internship? Will Our Internship Be Considered Invalid If We Are Absent?
A student who is absent for at least nine working days without a valid excuse will be considered as if they never completed the internship.
Will My Internship Period Be Extended If I Am Absent? Will My Insurance Continue?
The number of absent days (whether excused or unexcused) will be added to the internship period. In this case, upon the student's application, additional insurance coverage will be arranged for the missing days. If the student or the internship company fails to notify this situation, they will be held responsible. If a student voluntarily extends their internship beyond the required period, no additional insurance coverage will be provided.
How Many Working Days Should Be Counted in a Week?
In internship programs, one week is considered as five working days. If the workplace operates on Saturdays, Saturday is also counted as a working day. If the workplace does not operate on Saturdays, Saturday should not be included in the internship period. Sundays, public holidays, and religious holidays should not be included in the internship period. Even if the company operates on Sundays or public holidays, those days will not be counted in the internship period. When calculating the internship dates, public and national holidays should be excluded, such as:

How Should I Prepare My Internship Forms and Diary If I Complete My 60-Day Internship at Once?

Before graduation, students must complete 60 working days of internship. This can be done either in one continuous period (60 days) or split into two separate 30+30 day periods.

Students who complete 60 working days at once must fill out two separate forms:

One form for the first 30 days,a second form for the next 30 days. The start date of the second internship can be set immediately after the end date of the first internship.

Two separate internship diaries must be prepared. A single diary covering 60 days will not be accepted. While filling out the diary, the tasks performed should be described in detail.

If the diary content is found to be incomplete or unsuitable, it will be returned to the student for revision.
Can I Extend My Internship Period? Will My Insurance Continue If I Extend It?
If a student voluntarily extends their internship period, no additional insurance coverage will be provided. Sundays should not be included in the internship period.
What Should I Do If I Already Have Insurance?
In the internship form, the section "Do you have insurance from another institution?" should be marked as "Yes".
How Soon Should I Submit My Internship Diary After the Internship Ends?
The internship diary must be submitted within one month following the completion of the internship.
Can I Work on Official Holidays If Requested?
Official and religious holidays are not considered as working days. When determining the internship dates, public and religious holidays must be excluded from the total number of internship days.
