"Critical Thinking Talk" Held During the First Week of the "Future Skills" Project at IGU FFA!

As part of the "Future Skills" project conducted by the Faculty of Fine Arts at Istanbul Gelişim University, an important talk aimed at enhancing students' critical thinking skills was held in the first week. On February 28, 2025, at K Block 705, Lecturer Esra Büyükemir Karagöz led the event titled "Thinking in Depth: Evaluating Information Through Critical Thinking and Analysis", marking a significant start for the students participating in the project.

The talk covered fundamental principles of critical thinking, analytical approaches to information, media literacy, and combating misinformation. Participants engaged in interactive discussions, learning how to question the accuracy of information and assess it from different perspectives in today’s digital age.
Lecturer Esra Büyükemir Karagöz emphasized the importance of critical thinking in academic, professional, and daily life, highlighting that students should not only consume information but also question and analyze it effectively.
The event was attended by Dr. Lecturer İbrahim Erol, Research Assistant Ayten Bengisu Cansever Bayhan, and students from different courses, including:
  • IMI122 - Visual Expression II
  • IAE252 - Design Studio II (for Turkish-speaking students)
During the session, students actively participated in discussions based on real-life examples and case analyses, exploring various critical thinking processes. The discussions contributed to developing their analytical perspectives for both academic and professional life.

The "Future Skills" project will continue next week on March 6, 2025, with a talk titled "Learning with Curiosity: How Can We Learn More Effectively?", led by Lecturer Minel Kurtuluş. This session will focus on learning techniques and effective learning strategies, providing students with insights into optimizing their learning processes.

The faculty will continue to organize events in the coming weeks to support students in developing 21st-century skills as part of this project.
