Visual arts education from ancient civilizations to Bauhaus: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Kuş’s new book has been published

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Kuş, a faculty member at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Department of Graphic Design (GRA), has published his new work titled "Visual Arts Education from Ancient Civilizations to Bauhaus" under the All Sciences Academy label. The book examines the evolution of art from its ancient past to modern educational models through a comprehensive perspective.

Historical traces of nurturing the artist

Defining art as one of the most ancient and powerful forms of expression in humanity’s journey of existence, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Kuş explores fundamental questions such as "How is an artist nurtured?" and "How is artistic knowledge and skill passed from one generation to the next?" Analyzing the process from the first figures drawn on cave walls to today’s digital installations, the book scrutinizes the historical milestones that visual arts education has traversed.

A holistic and philosophical approach

The work goes beyond treating fine arts education merely as a curriculum or a set of pedagogical methods. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Kuş offers the reader a holistic perspective by placing this discipline at the center of social, philosophical, and cultural transformations. The book positions artworks as silent witnesses of the civilizations they belong to and as carriers of cultural codes.

Art: An expanding and transforming structure

The author emphasizes that understanding the significant transformations in art education plays a critical role in deeply grasping the ever-changing nature of art. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Kuş summarizes the purpose of the book with the following words:
"In this study, by looking at the historical development processes of art education and grasping the significant transformations in the educational processes of visual arts, I hope we can more deeply understand the ever-expanding, transforming, and changing structure we call art."
As the Department of Graphic Design, we congratulate our professor for this valuable contribution to the literature and wish him continued success
