 Production Continues in Minimal Kitchen Trainings!


With the social responsibility project realized in cooperation with Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), Radio, Television and Cinema Department and Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department, children in the 7-8 age group entered the kitchen for the third time.


The Social Responsibility Project of Transformation and Development in the Kitchen: Minimal Kitchen Trainings, which set out with the aim of enabling children in the 7-8 age group in love homes to meet the gastronomy field and be involved in the production process, aims to raise children's awareness on issues such as zero waste and recycling, while keeping children alive to the value of production. . Social responsibility project carried out under the supervision of Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts Asst. Prof. Dr. Sezgin Savaş, research assistants of the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department Ayşe Seray Çetin, Emel Çirişoğlu and Radio, Television and Cinema Department research assistants Eda Çekemci, Okan Kırbacı, in cooperation with Bahçelievler Şeyh Zayed Children's Houses Site. was held for children living in love homes. The third session of the project, whose first and second sessions were completed in a pleasant way, is hosted by Istanbul Gelişim University C Block Gastronomy Kitchen. In the first two sessions, the children who produced on the themes of "natural coloring" and "waste-free kitchen", this time experienced making baby biscuits under the theme of "use of alternative products".

Subject: Use of Alternative Product

After a general briefing on the culinary discipline, the children were given a theoretical lecture on the use of alternative products in the kitchen, which is the subject of the third session. Within the scope of the theme, the children who made baby biscuits by using honey and oats as alternative sweeteners instead of common ingredients such as sugar and flour in the kitchen, tasted the biscuits they produced at the end of the session. Expressing their appreciation during the tasting, the children had the opportunity to experience the feeling of the products they created with their own handiwork.

Dilber Kaya, the group manager who came with the students from Bahçelievler Şeyh Zayed Children's Houses Complex, said that children can participate in many activities in the love house, gain experience in different subjects, but still going out of the institution and producing in a professional kitchen in a university environment,  is completely a different experience for them . Adding that the children were carefully prepared on the morning of the session, Kaya thanked the responsible teachers and volunteer students.

With the project, which will end on December 3, 2022 with its fourth session, it is anticipated that children will be conscious of the importance of waste-free and natural production in the kitchen.
