 New article by Assoc. Prof. Murat Doğan!


A new article by Assoc. Prof. Murat Doğan, one of the Vice Deans of Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), and a faculty member in the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, has been published.


The article titled "Food engineers’ attitudes and purchasing intentions towards genetically modified organism products" by Assoc. Prof. Murat Doğan has been published in the journal Nutrition and Health. In his study, Doğan aimed to determine food engineers' attitudes toward genetically modified organism (GMO) products and how these attitudes influence their purchasing intentions.

Regarding the article, Assoc. Prof. Murat Doğan shared the following remarks:
 
"Biotechnological advancements have resulted in the genetic modification of many organisms. However, the potential health risks associated with these modifications have led consumers to approach GMO-containing products with skepticism. In this study, the goal was to determine the attitudes of food engineers toward GMO products and how these attitudes influence their purchasing intentions. For this purpose, an attitude scale toward GMO products was adapted, and a multivariate regression analysis was conducted using the collected survey data. The results indicated that food engineers' negative attitudes toward GMO products significantly impacted their purchasing intentions. Attitudes toward the use of genetic technology in production were identified as the most significant factor, with a 17% influence on purchasing intentions and a statistically significant effect (p < 0.05). Overall, the study found that food engineers are concerned about the potential risks of GMO foods. To address these concerns, it is suggested that reducing knowledge gaps about genetic technology within this professional group should be considered a strategic priority."
