The famous French gastronomy guide "Michelin Guide", described as the Oscar of the gastronomy world, will add new routes from Turkey. Michelin Guide inspectors, who made selections from Istanbul for the first time in 2022, will this time make selections from Izmir and Bodrum.
The international Michelin Guide, published in thirty-seven different countries every year, evaluates restaurants and gives stars. With Istanbul joining the guide, the selected restaurants were announced for the first time in 2022. The Michelin Guide for Istanbul gave a Michelin star to five restaurants, a Green Star to one restaurant, and a Bib Gourmand to ten restaurants, and included a total of fifty-three restaurants in its recommendation list.
After Istanbul, Michelin Guide inspectors are now focusing on Izmir and Bodrum. By announcing that Izmir and Bodrum were included in their selection in Turkey, Michelin proved that Turkey is a rich and exciting gastronomy destination. In addition to the fact that both regions are touristic, the fact that Urla, one of the wine routes, will be evaluated within the scope of the guide creates a special excitement.
Michelin Guide International Director Gwendal Poullennec said: “After their first visit to Istanbul last year, our inspectors are very pleased to include Izmir and Bodrum in their road map. These two locations not only offer unforgettable and unique cultural and touristic experiences but also have a culinary culture that deserves to be discovered. While Izmir and its surroundings have exciting restaurants that highlight local culture and where many young chefs can showcase their high-level gastronomic talents, Bodrum shines with its restaurants offering innovative concepts in luxury resorts, as well as traditional and easily accessible restaurants located in the city center. By including these two new regions in the Michelin Guide family, we wholeheartedly wish to spread the message to the world that Turkey is a gastronomy destination that should never be missed”.
Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey said: “We are extremely happy that Izmir and Bodrum, which are among our leading tourism destinations after Istanbul, stand out as 'gastro-cities'. "We will be able to showcase the richness of our culinary culture, which has the concept of sustainability at its core, to the world, thanks to our talented chefs who blend it with the most qualified products of the region and a farm-to-table approach”.
Michelin Guide; As in all destinations, it will highlight the culinary culture of Izmir and Bodrum and recommend the best restaurants. The 2024 restaurant elections, which will be held for the second time in Istanbul and the first for Izmir and Bodrum, will be announced at a special ceremony held in Istanbul on November 9, 2023. All restaurants included in the guide will be shared on the Michelin Guide's official website.
