Res. Asst. Research Assistant Emel Çirişoğlu, an academic member of the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts at Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), participated in the congress with her report titled “Analysis of Gastronomy Branding via Websites: The Example of Restaurants Serving Istanbul Cuisine”.
Res. Asst. Emel Çirişoğlu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Güneren participated in the “GANUD-VI - 6th International Gastronomy, Nutrition and Dietetics Congress” hosted by Arel University and organized for the sixth time this year. The congress was held on November 20-21, 2024. The congress was open to both face-to-face and online participation. Res. Asst. Emel Çirişoğlu participated in the congress with her report titled “Analysis of Gastronomy Branding via Websites: The Example of Restaurants Serving Istanbul Cuisine”.
Çirişoğlu stated that “Istanbul cuisine has a culinary culture that has been enriched and developed by being influenced by various cultures throughout history. Some studies are needed to introduce the various flavors that the cosmopolitan structure of the city has brought to the culinary culture and to include gastronomy culture in the city's branding studies.” Res. Asst. Emel Çirişoğlu stated that the aim of the study was to analyze how the content on the websites of restaurants is associated with the identity of the brand and its role in Istanbul's gastronomy branding. As a result of the study, she stated that the use of gastronomy components that offer important opportunities to destinations to ensure gastronomy branding is important for preserving the originality of the destinations and transferring them to future generations.
