We answered the questions asked by our students of Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department about the compulsory summer internship.
When can I start my internship at the earliest?
Within the scope of Summer Internship I and Summer Internship II, students can start their mandatory internships from their second semester onwards. Continuing students can undertake their internships during the summer period. However, there is no such requirement for students who are in the process of graduating.
Summer internships begin from the last day of the final exams in the spring semester. However, before starting your internship from the last day of the final exams as specified in the academic calendar, the start date of the internship must be reported to the department head and the dean's office at least 15 days in advance to arrange for internship insurance registration. A separate form must be filled out for every 30 working days.
Steps to take:
1- Download the compulsory summer internship form from the IGU Student Affairs Department (OIDB) website: https://oidb.gelisim.edu.tr/tr/idari-icerik-form-ve-belgeler
2- Fill out the compulsory internship form on the computer and sign the student signature section (it will be a wet signature).
3- Have the Department Head and the internship site official sign the relevant fields.
4- In order to complete the insurance entry procedures, have the internship start form approved by the student affairs office (at least 15 days before the start date of the internship).
Do I need to hand-deliver my internship documents?
Those whose internship place is outside Istanbul; It is required to scan the internship start form (via a mobile application or browser) and send an e-mail to gsfstaj@gelisim.edu.tr using the student e-mail address.
Those whose internship location is in Istanbul; The internship start form must be delivered by hand in 3 copies (those who will spend 60 working days will have 3+3 copies).
Insurance procedures for students whose application forms are approved are initiated by Istanbul Gelişim University.
Do we have the right to be absent during the internship? Is our internship considered invalid if we are absent?
A student who does not continue his/her internship for at least nine working days without an excuse is considered to have never completed an internship.
Will my internship period be extended if I am absent? Will my insurance continue?
Working days equal to the excused/unexcused absence are added to the internship period. In this case, additional insurance is made for the missing days upon the student's application. If the student or the internship site does not report this situation, the responsibility belongs to them. Additional insurance is provided for the student who optionally extends the determined internship period. If the student or the internship site does not report this situation, the responsibility belongs to them.
How many working days should we calculate in an internship week?
In internship programs, a week is considered as five working days. In workplaces where people work on Saturday, Saturday is also considered a working day. In institutions that do not work on Saturdays, Saturdays should not be included in the internship. Additionally, Sundays, public holidays and holidays should not be included in the internship. Even if the institution where the internship takes place works on Sundays, public holidays and holidays, it should not be included in the internship process. In other words, when determining the dates, public and religious holidays should be calculated by subtracting the number of internship days: 15 July Democracy and National Unity Day, Eid al-Adha and its Eve, 30 August Victory Day.
How should I prepare the form and notebook if I do my 60-day internship in one go?
Before graduating, a student studying in our department must have completed an internship of 60 working days. 60 working days can be done in one go, or it can be done in 30+30 working days.
Those who will work 60 working days at once must fill out two separate forms (one form for 30 days and the second form for 30 days). You can start the second internship from the end of the first internship.
You also need to prepare the internship notebook as 2 separate notebooks. A single book (60 days) will not be accepted.
When filling out the notebook, the work done should be written in detail. Notebooks whose contents are found to be inappropriate or incomplete will be returned to the student for preparation from scratch. If the internship notebook will be filled in manually, a blue ballpoint pen should be used.
Can I extend my internship period? If I extend it, will my insurance continue?
No additional insurance will be made for the student who optionally extends the determined internship period.
Sundays should not be included in the internship.
I completed my compulsory internship. If there is another place where I want to do an internship, can I also do a volunteer internship?
Students who have a compulsory internship in their curriculum cannot do a voluntary internship.
What should I do if I have insurance?
In the form, "Does he/she have insurance in another institution?" section must be marked “yes”.
How long does it take to submit my notebook after the internship ends?
It must be submitted before the start of the new academic term (2024-2025 Fall Semester). Can I work if I am asked to work on public holidays?
Public and religious holidays are not considered business days. When determining the dates, public and religious holidays should be calculated by subtracting them from the number of internship days.
I don't know my student e-mail address, what should I do?
