 Bülent Erkmen’s Exhibition titled “Remix”

Bülent Erkmen “remixes” his design productions for over 40 years!
Design is, above all, the art of building a structure. Structural design, no matter its material, location and function should always remain functional between what is expected (order) and the course it is directed towards (person, individuals, mass). Whether it sends material signs through a language construct, circulates those, or shares abstract associations, design is a seamless translation practice.

Bülent Erkmen, who is one of the Turkey’s leading designers brings together all his works since the end of 1970s with the exhibition titled “Remix” at Akbank Sanat. In addition to the works (books, journals, posters, logos...) produced in all areas of graphic design, the exhibition space, exhibition designs and the works in the field of theater along with scarf, shirt, jewelry, tile, carpet, three-dimensional object designs and special projects will be exhibited. In the exhibition of over 400 works of Erkmen, we think we were able to see much of Turkey's social and cultural production as a director, who staged a designer with design language.

He “remixes” his 40 years of creativity and production process. Labyrinth-like edition of the exhibition, its closed characteristic are to get the audience lost between the work while visiting the exhibition; so that they can determine their own route. Getting lost in Erkmen’s work is like being on the brink of an unexpected discovery, an invention.

Akbank Art hosts Bülent Erkmen’s seven-episodes talk series focusing on remix aesthetics in different art disciplines within the scope of REMIX exhibition. Click for the details of talk series.
