The Second Phase of the “Sustainable Awareness on Campus” Project Begins at IGU Faculty of Fine Arts

The “Sustainable Awareness on Campus Social Responsibility Project,” carried out within the Faculty of Fine Arts at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), has entered its second phase of preparation. Aiming to strengthen sustainability awareness across the campus, the project is implemented through a data-driven production model and an interdisciplinary collaboration framework.

The project is led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ayten Bengisu Cansever Bayhan from the Department of Visual Communication Design, Faculty of Fine Arts, Istanbul Gelisim University. The research team includes Asst. Prof. Mustafa Dallı from the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design (English) and Asst. Prof. Okan Kırbacı from the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema. Bringing together academics from different disciplines, the project seeks to integrate design, spatial practice, and media production within a sustainability-oriented perspective.

Within the scope of the second phase, data will be collected and analyzed regarding the quantities of paper, plastic, glass, metal, and non-recyclable waste generated across the Istanbul Gelisim University campuses. Based on the findings, students will produce sustainability-themed data visualizations, posters, and installation designs. The resulting works are planned to be exhibited in faculty corridors and shared spaces, as well as in various areas throughout the campus. The primary aim is to make the tangible impact of campus waste visible and to enhance environmental awareness through design-based interventions.

The implementation process will officially begin with an information and preparation meeting to be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 14:00 in Laboratory 255. During this meeting, the project roadmap, data collection procedures, and design production phases will be presented to participating students.

By bringing together the transformative power of art and design with sustainability, the project aims to foster environmental responsibility among students and to establish a lasting culture of sustainability within campus life. The exhibition and implementation processes conducted within the university are expected to strengthen institutional awareness and contribute to the broader vision of a sustainable campus.
