The film has been officially selected for the competition section of the 13th International Festival of Archaeological and Cultural Documentary – AGON, qualifying to compete in one of the festival’s nine award categories. Bringing together films focused on archaeology and cultural heritage from around the world, the AGON Festival is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious international platforms in its field.
Exploring the layers of Karahantepe, one of the most important archaeological sites shedding light on early human history, the documentary presents a compelling cinematic narrative. The project was realized with the creative contributions of young participants from Şanlıurfa and students from the Visual Communication Design Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Istanbul Gelisim University. Throughout the production process, students actively participated in different stages of filmmaking, creating a unique collaboration that brought together academic knowledge and field experience.
Within the festival program, the film will be evaluated in nine different categories, including Grand Prix “Lena Savvidi,” Archaeological Film Award, Directing Award, Cinematography Award, and Audience Award. The Audience Award, determined by international viewers, will also highlight the film’s connection with a global audience.
This achievement represents more than a festival selection; it is also an important opportunity for Türkiye’s archaeological heritage and the universal significance of Karahantepe to gain wider international visibility.
By bringing together academic production, the creative energy of young filmmakers, and a strong awareness of cultural heritage, “Taş Tepeler: Karahantepe” continues its journey as a promising contribution to both Turkish documentary cinema and the preservation of cultural memory.
