Her book chapter titled “Crisis and Transformation in Digital Broadcasting: A Theoretical and Practical Analysis of the Transition from Twitch to Kick in Turkey” explores the migration of Turkish digital content creators from Twitch to Kick, particularly in the wake of the 2021 money laundering scandal that severely impacted Twitch’s reputation in Turkey. The study provides a multidimensional analysis through the lenses of digital labor, platform capitalism, and representation theory.
Utilizing digital ethnography and discourse analysis, Dr. Bayhan examines platform policies, monetization systems, social media commentary, and media coverage to offer a comprehensive account of this platform migration. The findings suggest that Kick’s appeal stems not only from its generous monetization model but also from its looser content regulations and perceived creative autonomy, positioning it as both an economic and symbolic alternative for creators.
The chapter appears in the edited volume “Advancements in Digital Broadcasting and Content Platforms”, contributing to current international debates on digital governance and media transitions.
We congratulate Res. Asst. Dr. Cansever Bayhan for this significant academic achievement and wish her continued success in her international scholarly endeavors.
