“Kadın Eli” Documentary Competes Internationally in Peru
The documentary “Kadın Eli” (Women’s Touch), directed by Ahmet Bikiç, Lecturer at Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Visual Communication Design, has achieved remarkable international success. Highlighting the labor and resilience of Anatolian women, the film has been selected to compete at the SERIES WEB AWARDS International Short Film Festival in Lima, the capital of Peru.
Shot in Iğdır, Turkey, the documentary sheds light on the production processes and efforts of local women. It focuses on how organic products, cultivated through traditional methods, are transformed into economic value through women’s hands. With its strong visual storytelling, the film portrays how authenticity turns into nourishment, future, and hope.
Director Ahmet Bikiç explained the project by saying: “The aim here is to bring the products created by women’s hands into the economy. This enables them to stand on their own feet. While in big cities like Istanbul it is easier for women to participate in the workforce, in Anatolia this process is more challenging. Through these initiatives, women not only gain economic independence but also support their families. The most important aspect is that all the products are entirely cultivated by them.”
“Kadın Eli” is more than a production story; it is also a tribute to the hardworking women of Anatolia. By encouraging women’s economic participation, the documentary contributes to the preservation of centuries-old agricultural traditions.
Istanbul Gelişim University regards art as one of the most powerful tools of social transformation. By fostering innovative productions and encouraging students to embrace social responsibility, the university continues to contribute directly to cultural and social development. With “Kadın Eli”, IGU carries the voices of Anatolia’s women onto the international stage, adding value to society through art.
