IGU at the Sineakademi Congress: Ahmet Bikiç Led a Cinematic Drone Imaging Workshop

At the I. Sineakademi International Cinema and Media Studies Congress, organized in partnership with Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) and hosted by Dicle University, IGU Lecturer Ahmet Bikiç conducted the “SineDrone” workshop, which attracted great interest from participants.

The Congress Took Place at Dicle University

Held between September 3–5, 2025, with Dicle University as host and IGU as partner, the I. Sineakademi International Cinema and Media Studies Congress brought together academics, artists, and students working in the fields of cinema and media. Throughout the congress, interdisciplinary panels, creative workshops, and special events drew significant attention.

Nearly 40 Papers Presented

During the event, nearly 40 papers were presented in academic sessions. Topics included the transformation of visual storytelling in the new media environment, AI-driven film production processes, and the cultural impacts of digital platforms. Alongside theoretical discussions, hands-on workshops played an important role in the program.

“SineDrone” Workshop Drew Strong Interest

One of the highlights of the congress was the “SineDrone: Drone Imaging Techniques” workshop led by IGU Lecturer Ahmet Bikiç on September 4. Positioned at the intersection of cinematography and aerial imaging, the workshop provided participants with a unique experience.

It covered drone shooting techniques, framing, dynamic camera movements, and the intricacies of aerial visual storytelling. Participants had the opportunity to learn not only theoretical knowledge but also practical insights into professional-level cinematic drone shooting through on-site applications.

Diversity of Participants Stood Out

In addition to academics from different universities, industry representatives and alumni also attended the congress. This diversity ensured that the outcomes of the event aligned with both academic and sectoral expectations. Participants gained new perspectives on cinema and media through this exchange of ideas.

New Horizons in Cinema and Media Studies

In the closing evaluations, the congress was praised as a model event for combining theory and practice in cinema and media studies. Participants emphasized that the event not only facilitated academic knowledge sharing but also filled an important gap in terms of practical experience exchange.

The organizing committee announced that the congress will be held annually, and preparations are already underway for a stronger and more inspiring gathering in 2026.
