HKİB Avcılar Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School students met with drone technologies at IGU
Within the scope of an applied training event organized by Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), students from HKİB Avcılar Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School were introduced to drone technologies. The Drone Flight Demo Course, conducted by Lecturer Ahmet Bikiç, an SHGM-licensed Drone Pilot and faculty member in the Department of Visual Communication Design (VCD) at the Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), attracted significant interest from students.
Drone technologies and areas of use introduced
During the event, students were provided with comprehensive information about drone systems, flight principles, safe flight regulations, and aerial imaging techniques. It was emphasized that drone technologies are currently used not only in media and cinema, but also actively across many sectors including mapping, advertising, security, agriculture, and digital content production.
The presentations focused on technical details that should be considered during drone operation as well as flight safety issues, while also providing students with basic information regarding civil aviation regulations. Students had the opportunity to learn about current developments in drone piloting and emerging career opportunities within the sector.
Applied flight demonstrations conducted
Following the theoretical presentations, students had the opportunity to closely observe the use of drone technologies in media, communication, and visual production through practical flight demonstrations. During the demo flight, drone control systems, camera angles, and aerial imaging techniques were introduced through hands-on demonstrations.
It was observed that students showed strong interest in drone operation processes throughout the event, and the applied training model aimed to deliver technical knowledge in a more understandable and experience-oriented manner. During the event, students also had the opportunity to examine how drone technologies contribute to creative production processes.
Contribution to professional development
It was stated that the event, which combined technology with applied education, contributed to students’ professional development while also enabling them to explore future career fields. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of students interested in media, visual communication, and digital production becoming familiar with current industry technologies.
Officials from Istanbul Gelisim University stated that efforts to bring young people together with current industry technologies will continue, and they thanked the participating students and contributing academics for their involvement in the event.
