Hands-On Training and Industry-Integrated Program
Designed in line with the needs of the film industry, the Film Academy offers hands-on training opportunities in a wide range of fields such as short film production, scriptwriting, cinematography, editing techniques, drone filming, and the use of lighting and set design. Through workshops conducted by expert academics from the Faculty of Fine Arts, directors, and industry professionals, students gain not only theoretical knowledge but also professional practice.
"We Want to Bring What’s Distant Closer Through Art"
Ahmet Bikiç, Lecturer and Workshop Coordinator of IGU Film Academy, emphasized that the academy is not only a place for education but also a center for cultural production and social responsibility:
“With the support of Public Relations and Promotion Department Head Bülent Deyirmenci and the active contributions of the Faculty of Fine Arts, we established the Film Academy to show that art is not unreachable. We carry out projects in various regions of Turkey and in disadvantaged areas. We are also planning international projects. For example, we aim to establish a Film Academy in the city of Babylon in Iraq, in cooperation with local universities. Through this project, we will provide high school students with cinema education and conduct on-site film productions.”
Free Workshops Across Turkey
Workshops are planned in cities such as Bursa, Beypazarı, Hakkari, Çanakkale, Şanlıurfa, and Mardin, adopting an interdisciplinary educational model. One of the projects in Bursa will involve producing a documentary about Ottoman-era healing houses, with its premiere held together with the students participating in the project.
These programs, offered completely free of charge, reflect Istanbul Gelişim University’s vision of social responsibility. The teaching staff consists of academics from the Faculty of Fine Arts as well as alumni actively working in the industry. This structure makes the academy a dynamic, sustainable, and inclusive learning environment.
