A new academic contribution has been added to the scholarly output of the Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Fine Arts. The book titled Divergent Approaches to Media and Art Studies, co-edited by Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Fine Arts Lecturer Ahmet Bikiç and Prof. Dr. Zuhal Akmeşe, has been published by Istanbul Gelisim University Press.

Published in April 2026, the 149-page volume offers a multidimensional, interdisciplinary, and contemporary perspective on the fields of media and art. Released as IGU Publications No. 157, the book is registered with the ISBN 978-625-8202-58-8 and e-ISBN 978-625-8202-61-8.

Distinguished by its rich academic content, the volume brings together current and original discussions across a broad range of topics, including surveillance in digital communication, synthetic media and deepfakes, political communication in the age of artificial intelligence, Maoist propaganda, collective memory in YouTube comments, representation in Turkish media, the aesthetics of violence in television series, migrant news coverage, the concept of the manosphere, plastic arts and new media, as well as product packaging design within the context of visual communication. The chapter titles clearly demonstrate that the book offers a strong academic framework that approaches media and art studies from diverse disciplinary perspectives.

The publication process of the book was coordinated by Ahmet Şenol Armağan, while the cover design bears the signature of Esra Hürsever. Expected to contribute to both theoretical and practical discussions in the fields of media and art, this valuable work also represents an important achievement in academic publishing.

We would like to congratulate Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Fine Arts Lecturer Ahmet Bikiç, as well as all the academics and contributors involved in the editorial and publication process, and we hope that Divergent Approaches to Media and Art Studies will make a valuable contribution to scholarly research and future studies in the field.
