 “Ayna” Shines in Atlanta

“Ayna / The Mirror,” a short film directed by Ahmet Bikiç, faculty member at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), Department of Visual Communication Design, has achieved significant international recognition by being officially selected for the Trailblazer Short Film Festival.

The festival, hosted by Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC), will take place from October 21–23, 2025, bringing together a diverse selection of innovative short films from around the world. “Ayna” stands out as one of the few films representing Turkey in the festival’s official lineup.

Set against the backdrop of poverty, the film tells the emotional story of a young girl who forms an imaginary bond with her reflection in the mirror. Through this tender connection, “Ayna” explores themes of childhood, hope, and resilience, inviting the audience into a fragile yet deeply human dreamscape.

Written and directed by Ahmet Bikiç, the film captivates viewers not only with its striking visual atmosphere but also through its simplicity and emotional depth. Feyat Öner, who also served as the producer, contributed to the film’s editing process, while Zuhal Akmeşe joined as an academic advisor and Bülent Değirmenci as the story writer.

More than just a short film, “Ayna” stands as a poetic reflection of innocence, poverty, and the silent cry of hope. It is rooted in local sensibilities yet resonates with universal human emotion.

At the upcoming Atlanta screening, “Ayna” will represent the creativity and aesthetic power of Turkish short filmmaking on the international stage.
