 What awaits the Radio, Television and Cinema Department in the New Era?


Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF) Radio, Television and Cinema Department head of department Asst. Prof. Dr. Önder Paker evaluated the situation of the department for the 2020-2021 academic year and talked about what the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema awaits in the 2021-2022 academic year.


Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF) Radio, Television and Cinema Department continued its theoretical and practical training remotely in the 2020-2021 academic year due to the pandemic. He organized many online events and brought students together with important names from the industry. After the pandemic, students prepared many creative projects that could be taken directly to the set when suitable conditions are provided. An exhibition was created with films, videos and photographs of students who were able to shoot, taking into account the normalization periods and pandemic rules.
 
Head of department Asst. Prof. Dr. Önder Paker made a situation assessment of the department for the 2020-2021 academic year and stated that how important communication and art is during the pandemic period is better understood:
 
"Audio-visual arts transmitted via radio, television, cinema and the internet have increased the importance of the universal feelings and needs that have brought them together in the lives of societies and individuals during the past one and a half year pandemic. The use of technology together with the creative intelligence of human beings is at the center of new ways of living. It makes radio, television, cinema and internet broadcasting more effective as the most important mass media.
 
As Istanbul Gelişim University Fine Arts Faculty Radio, Television and Cinema Department, we closely follow the latest developments in technology, learn and teach innovations every day. We embody all the theoretical and applied knowledge and experience of the art of cinema, which covers almost all of the creative art fields, by creating works of art."
 
The Department of Radio, Television and Cinema will continue to keep up with changes and innovations in the 2021-2022 academic year, updating all its activities in theoretical, practical, social and cultural areas, and improving both quantity and quality.
 
Asst. Prof. Dr. Önder Paker gave the following words about the possibilities of the department and the mission it will continue in the new term:
 
"Starting from the first half of the freshman year, we train artists who are knowledgeable and experienced in the industry, capable of working in all professional fields of cinema and television, equipped with all the technical knowledge of a filmmaking process, and having produced at least eight short films from creative script writing to shooting, editing and completion for eight semesters.
 
Our curriculum, which is integrated with the Radio, Television and Cinema departments of the most successful universities in Turkey and the world, continues to increase the quality in parallel with current developments.
 
The project studies of our students are gradually developing with the experienced faculty members of our department who have done projects in the fields of theatre, cinema, television, radio and communication. We are proud of our students, who have made a name for themselves in the sector with their projects that have started to emerge during their education period.
 
We will continue their success in the 2021-2022 academic year with our valuable students who will join us."
