 The Ninth of the Stars in the Vision Conversation Series: “How Does Screenplay and Fiction Combine Powers in Dramatic Writing?”


Organized by Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF) Radio, Television and Cinema Department, the ninth of the Stars in Vision Interview Series was held with the participation of editor and writer Koray Sarıdoğan with the title "How Scenario and Fiction Combine Powers in Dramatic Writing".


The interview with Koray Sarıdoğan, the founding editor of KalemKahveKlavye.com and author of the books Kadran Kadraj, The Nominee's Handbook, The Heart of Chaos, The Underground Library, Edgar Allen Poe: The Pussy From the Edge of the Night and The Old Raven, started with the subject of the intersections of screenplay and fiction. . Mentioning that all the trainings on creative writing are based on fiction, Sarıdoğan stated that different genres support each other, and that for this reason, it is necessary to look at the expression styles of different genres in order to develop writing skills. He stated that he benefited from the dynamics of scriptwriting in terms of dialogue writing in fiction, the characters speaking in different dynamics, providing the narrative without making the text clumsy, creating conflicts and knots. He referred to the limited narrative space in the screenplay, as opposed to the breadth of the narrative space in the novel.
 
Pointing out that the effects of visual thinking were observed in literature after 2000, he said that fiction and screenplay are more intertwined than ever before. He recently made statements about how the effect of minimalization has emerged in literature and art, with examples.
 
He commented on what can be done to deepen the characters and events while writing, how the actions of reading and writing affect each other, what the definition of qualified reader includes, the effect of talent and observation in the writing process, the reasons for the lack of development of the readership, the reader-writer relationship, how digitalization will transform literature. . Mentioning the subject of form and substance, Sarıdoğan answered the questions of the participants. The interview ended after the question and answer session.
