 The 13th of the Stars in Vision Event Series was held with the participation of Gürcan Mete Şener!


The thirteenth event of the Stars in Vision event series organized by Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), Radio, Television, and Cinema department, under the title of Production Stages and Cinematography in Cinema, with the participation of Gürcan Mete Şener. It was moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Radife Akyıldız Ongar.


The event, which was held in Firnas Auditorium and attracted great attention, started with asst. Prof. Dr. Radife Akyıldız Ongar presenting Gürcan Mete Şener's CV. Subsequently, he asked questions on topics such as the definition of cinematography, the working conditions of the cinematographer with the other teams on the set, the distinction between TV series and cinema sets, and suggestions for those who want to become a cinematographer.
 
Producer, director, cinematographer, and academician Gürcan Mete Şener started his speech by stating that the cinematographer is the person who creates the world that the director wants, although it has an artistic dimension, it is craftsmanship.
 
Şener, who was selected among one hundred prominent cinematographers in the centennial of cinema, made statements about the relationship between the cinematographer and the director. He stated that the creativity aspect is the director's job and that the cinematographer is the person who creates the atmosphere desired by the director, together with the camera and lighting team.
 
Şener talked about the field of image management, which has become easier since 35 mm film cameras with the developing technology, the importance of digital platforms in the field, and camera brand preferences, and answered the questions from the students. He explained how they continued the crisis management on the sets and how the team hierarchy worked. He conveyed to those who want to be a cinematographer that they work with high motivation and that when they work with high motivation, they will be noticed in the sets they enter. Şener also talked about the sets he worked on and the memories he had with famous directors and actors and stated that the field of cinematography is a field that is open to progress if it is chosen willingly and lovingly.
