An Intergenre Short Film Example in the Light of Genre Theory: The Criminals
Kırbacı, who defines the concept of genre and includes different genre definitions of different names in the literature, includes the formations and changes over time of genres, which he defines as "traditional and traditionalist as well as innovative in themselves". Touching on the concepts such as interspecies and hybrid genres that emerged with the postmodern understanding, Kırbacı argued that in the study, it is more difficult to achieve interspecies and has fewer examples than the feature film due to its form, possibilities, and limitations. He determined the movie as an example. He explained the reason why the film The Criminals was chosen as an example "the reason behind the 'success' of the film in the eyes of its director and audience is that it is based on a true story, as well as the inter-genre transition." In this context, the movie The Criminals, in the context of the concepts of "genre theory" and "interspecies"; “How can interspecies be achieved in a short film?” To answer the question, it was examined using qualitative research methods. As a result of the study, it was concluded by Kırbacı that, in addition to touching on many social issues in the movie The Criminals, there are transitions between drama and thriller genres with conscious choices in terms of form and content; While doing this, it was found that he used decor, camera angles, character creation and imaginary elements.
We congratulate Res. Asst. Okan Kırbacı for his work and wish him continued success.
