“Art Direction Should Be Included in Curriculum”

Art director Natali Yeres, who has worked as an art director in important films of Turkish Cinema and continues her work actively, started the Art Direction Workshop organized within the scope of Wednesday Workshops with the question of what art direction is and her professional definition. Saying that most people do not have a clear idea of what the art director does, Yeres stated that one of the three directors on the set is the art director and creates the visual atmosphere of the film. Talking about the preparations of the art director before the set, and what he did during and after the set, Yeres explained how the art director cooperated with the other teams, especially the director.
Stating that most universities do not have a course for art direction in the departments of Radio, Television, and Cinema, and this causes a lack of knowledge and experience in those who are new to the sector and produce short films, Yeres stated that the art direction course should be added to the curriculum.

Yeres, who made art direction comments on popular TV series and movies, gave information on subjects such as color, architecture, and form. In the workshop, where the transformation of art management along with digitalization was discussed, the students had basic information about art direction. The students, who took the opportunity to get solution suggestions by asking questions about their projects, frequently stated that they enjoyed the workshop very much.

The workshop, which attracted great interest from the students, lasted two hours. The workshop, which was like a conversation with the students, ended after the questions were answered.

We would like to thank Natali Yeres for sharing her valuable experience and knowledge with us.
