Event started with a speech Asst. Prof. Dr. Adem Özer on the meaning and importance of the day. In his speech, Asst. Prof. Dr. Adem Özer stated that Turkey, which faced the coup attempt on July 15, 2016, sets an example to the whole world with the resistance and struggle it puts shoulder to shoulder with its nation and state, and pointed out that it reveals an unprecedented mood and democracy awareness in the world. After Özer's speech, he left it to Lecturer Büşra Babacan.
“The museum is important to remember July 15 and to learn a lesson”
Lecturer Büşra Babacan's presentation started with the opening of the Memory 15 July Museum, its purpose and goals. Then, the importance of the museum for society, social memory, keeping memories alive and cultural heritage were discussed. Babacan, who defined the concept of memory space, stated that living spaces – memory spaces, which have become a part of the social memory today and arouse common feelings in a part of the society and revive memories, contain social contents due to the symbolic values they contain and transfer them to the future. In her speech, Babacan under the title of "tourism of sadness" as "spatial memory concept"; He referred to the processes of "confrontation-understanding", "connection" and "acceptance". After examining different examples on the subject, Babacan, who discussed the Memory 15 July Museum in detail, mentioned the physical characteristics of the museum space and briefly explained the objects exhibited in the museum and their meanings. Babacan ended his presentation by talking about the effect of the museum on the visitors and the comments made by the visitors about the museum.
